stories of past campers and their families
My daughter Abbey attended Adrian's Rock Band Camp last summer. The camp was well organized and allowed her to explore a variety of musical instruments in a supportive, accepting, and creative environment. When I asked her what she enjoyed most about the camp, she said that it rekindled her love for music, it was a great learning experience and she made wonderful friendships that have continued beyond camp. As a parent, it was fascinating to see my daughter's confidence grow as the week progressed and to see her so excited to go back each day. In fact, she enjoyed it so much she even convinced me to allow her to go for a second week!
Our daughters came into Rock Camp playing one instrument and by the end of the week were performing live on instruments they learned over the week. The girls learned how to write an original song and performed in front of a packed audience at the end of the week and at Rivercital at Riverfest Elora. They made friendships at Rock Camp they've maintained all year and out of all of the summer camps they've been a part of, this was one that they've asked to go back to before it was over.
I Came to Adrian's Rock Camp as an adult. There were several other adults in my group, and the week gave all of us an opportunity to feel like kids again. Total FUN!
However, what really impressed me were the groups of young musicians. Adrian's Rock Camp took them through the entire band experience: learning cover versions of songs; practicing and then performing these pieces for the other bands at the end of each day; in some cases, composing original pieces; and at the end of the week giving a recital for family and friends. Throughout the week there were breakout sessions that focused on such things as music theory, recording and hand-drumming.
But, the Rock Star experience didn't stop there. A few weeks later all the bands got to perform as the opening act for the 3-day festival Riverfest. Along with the music aspect, I'm sure lasting friendships were made. A truly unforgettable experience.
Zachary will be attending his fourth rock band camp this summer. Even for a 16 yr old, this is one of the big highlights of his summer. Not only does he gain a ton of knowledge and improves in his guitar skills, he learns new instruments, he has made some great friends every year and has kept in touch with many. The instructors are all amazing and their passion shows through daily when we hear all about the day's events. The recital at the end of the week is absolutely wonderful as we sit back and listen to really, a great concert. Getting the opportunity to open Riverfest with Adrian and his team is the biggest highlight Zach has had every year!
Take it all or what you would like from that. It's all true and we are looking forward to see what you do with the kids this yr!
Adrian Jones Rock Camp has been instrumental in creating a life-long love of music for our two boys. They have learned how to work as a team to put on a successful performance and to develop original pieces. Being ensconced in a full week of playing, guided by exceptional instructors, improved their musical aptitude by leaps and bounds. Adrian gave them the confidence to perform live, sing and play multiple instruments; an experience they will always be grateful for.
